Inside Scoop: After Hours Party

Dancing with awesome music? Or watching a movie with your friends? Which one would you choose? Terman Middle School decided to make an amazing event where the students and staffs get to watch a movie together. The Terman after party includes all the aspects of a fun movie party with yummy snacks! We decided to get the inside scoop on this new event by talking with many of the students who participated as well as the adults who helped make this dream a reality.

Back to the Future was the lucky movie chosen by Leadership. A lot of students came to watch this movie, but also for free snacks. A seventh grader Quincy R. came to this event for “Dippin’ Dots and it was like a new thing at our school so I wanted to see how it’ll go”. Most of the students we interviewed also answered that they came for Dippin’ Dots. Great amount of people came to this party and the café was crowded with people engrossed in the movie. People who didn’t want to watch the movie stayed outside playing games like air hockey, ping-pong, or just chatting.

According to Mr. Gielow, the leadership and administrators decided to change the usual dance because “What I heard was that a fair amount of kids felt that dance can have unintended stress and they would rather have a party”. Meanwhile, the student’s opinion about this change varied. Eighth grader Hyewon A. said “I prefer the dance because its classic and this event is similar to a carnival”. She also commented that “I would want this even again but not for all three dances. Maybe once”. In contrary, a sixth grader Tim L. said “I like the After Hours party better than the dance because there’s a movie”. After Hours Party was enjoyable for many students but a lot of them agreed that dances are better. Since this was the first time to try out this event, our school is not sure what event will be held next year but students hope for both.

The After Hours party was a great success with popcorns, candies, and all the delicious treats that brought this event to life. Special shout out to leadership class, staff, and student council who helped! From all this input we got, we could conclude that the students definitely loved this new event and our school has achieved another great experience once again.
