Run for Fun

Track and field might not be the most popular choice of all the after school activities. To people that have given this sport a chance; however, they find that it is actually a lot more fun than they would expect. “Track and field is fun because I get to meet new people and compete with them,” said Marco R. (8). For many people like Marco, track and field is an important part of their life.

The team meets after school every day. “We stretch and warm up so that we get our blood pumping and don’t get cramps,” says Kenzie C. (8). They are then dismissed to practice the events they specialize in. “Having them do an event more often helps them become better,” Coach Josh says. The coaches orient the athletes toward improving themselves and competing at meets.

Each week, the track team participates in a track and field meet. Team members from different schools compete in various events like the 4x100 relay and the high jump. “Our team is best at the 100-meter dash, the mile, half mile, quarter mile runs and discus,” says Marco R. (8). The best of the best will advance to the finals where they will get a chance to win a medal.

Track is not just for exercise; it can also be fun. The variety of events creates an environment that lots of people can enjoy. From hurdles to long jump to shot put, track and field is a fun competitive sport that will keep you coming back for more every year!
